Bowls: Spalted Maple

Spalting is any form of coloring in wood caused by fungi. It can be found in living trees but is most often found in dead trees. The unique colors and patterns of spalted wood are highly sought after by many woodturners.

This 9" bowl came from a large maple log sitting on the side of the road that my best friend happened across. The colors in this and the other logs that came with it were nothing short of spectacular. The photograph does not do this bowl justice as it's so highly polished it resembles marble. As with most of my bowls, my finishing process is foodsafe.
