Other Turnings: Sassafrass & Bubinga Platter

This 15" platter is made of sassafrass with a bubinga stringer running through the center. A very nice gentleman Carl Kindred, who I met in PA was kind enough to give me a plank of sassafrass from a local (to him) mill to see what I could come up with. The plank wasn't wide or thick enough to do much with without laminating and since I was currently making a similarly sized platter from bubinga I decided to laminate a stringer of that red-orange wood into the center. I really like the contrast of the two woods.
Given as a Christmas gift to my wife, we've used this platter on numerous occasions. Hot foods on the platter have worn down the wax finish and given it an odd look in the photos so it seems like it's getting time to re-buff it.
