Nantucket Turnings: Unity (Spalted Maple)

Another variation in the Unity series of bowls, this 9" bowl is turned from spalted maple. Spalted wood is wood that has just begun the first processes of natural decay wherein stains, fungi, and molds begin to enter the wood often causing spectacular figuring to occur. Black, pink, grey and multiple other colors can occur during the spalting process.

This particular piece was our wedding present to my brother-in-law Phillip and his wife Lynn.
